To discover how best to develop a sustainable and effective school-based breastfeeding education (SBBE) in pre-K12 classrooms ...

... Dr. Sara Moukarzel and colleagues from the Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Mother-Milk-Infant Center of Research Excellence (LRF MOMI CORE) at the University of California San Diego surveyed hundreds of teachers and students in different schools in Lebanon. Like many other countries, Lebanon continues to struggle with low breastfeeding rates largely driven by misinformation and negative attitudes towards breastfeeding.

They found that SBBE is currently limited, that teaches are willing to incorporate SBBE in their classes, and that sociocultural barriers against supporting breastfeeding in the future were different among students by gender. A tailored SBBE program that addresses these barriers seems to be feasible and timely.
