According to a new case study, maternal and child health have been ‘severely hampered’ in Pakistan’s conflict afflicted areas.
Researchers have identified the urgent need to increase awareness and practices for breastfeeding as one effective way to prevent the country’s high burden of undernutrition and reduce childhood morbidity and mortality.
Details have just been published by the BMC journal Conflict and Health in this open access article, ‘Impact of conflict on maternal and child health service delivery – how and how not: a country case study of conflict affected areas of Pakistan’.
The case study was led by researchers at Aga Khan University, with support from FLRF.
It is one of a series of case studies: ‘Delivering health and nutrition interventions for women and children in conflict settings: country case studies from the BRANCH Consortium’, made available for open access by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
