LactaPedia – A Glossary of Lactation for Science and Medicine

Conflicting advice is one of the most common factors that impact a mother’s confidence in her ability to breastfeed and sustain lactation. Therefore, consistent terminology is needed to help researchers and practitioners reach a common understanding, and prevent conflicting advice.

FLRF and the University of Western Australia launch LactaPedia - A Glossary of Lactation for Science and Medicine. LactaPedia is a freely accessible online resource towards a consistent and research-based terminology for human lactation.

It is intended to eliminate inconsistencies in terminology – which lead to inconsistencies in understanding – of breastfeeding and breast milk. LactaPedia is primarily targeted towards scientists, medical and healthcare professionals, yet it will be available to the public as well.

The online glossary is also included in the evidence-based reference book published by FLRF: Breastfeeding and Breast Milk - from Biochemistry to Impact.
