Findings from a pilot study offer new clues for identifying which preterm infants in neonatal intensive care units may be at risk for allergic sensitization and the development of asthma.

"This could lead to the development of therapeutic interventions during a critical window of immune development to reduce the risk’" write the researchers.

Their work has just been published in Nature’s Scientific Reports: 'The impact of maternal asthma on the preterm infants’ gut metabolome and microbiome (MAP study)'. Find the details here.
