Colostrum differs profoundly from mature breastmilk. Yet its role in long-term health has remained under-investigated, until now.
The University of Western Australia, with support from FLRF, launches a study to discover how colostrum, the first fluid produced by the mammary gland, impacts a newborn’s gut immune system development and health in adulthood.
Researchers are studying the physiological impact of colostrum on gut microbiota, immune regulation and metabolic homeostasis. They are asking if colostrum can help prevent allergies and metabolic diseases. Learn more about the project here.
