A new, practical handbook to support the mental health of expectant and new mothers is coming to maternity clinics in Switzerland.
The goal: to strengthen the mental health of mothers around the time of birth and in the long term.
The handbook is designed to help midwives provide early, targeted detection and care for pregnant women with mental health conditions. It is being produced by the University Hospital Bern and Insel Gruppe. Included will be practical templates, technical requirements, and training materials to efficiently implement an Advanced Practice Midwife (AMP) service.
An AMP service is a specialized care model in which experienced midwives with additional training work closely with doctors, psychologists, and other specialists to provide women with individualized and holistic support, especially in stressful situations.
The handbook is expected in 2026.
FLRF is grateful to the University Hospital Bern and Insel Gruppe and proud to support their work on behalf of better maternal mental health.
