Dr. Maria Miletta

This International Day of Women & Girls in Science, we’re spotlighting an inspirational neuroscientist at the Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Center for Neurodevelopment, Growth and Nutrition of the Newborn (LRF NGN), University of Zurich.

Dr. Maria Consolata Miletta, PhD, Group Leader and Principal Investigator: How did neuroscience capture your interest?

“During university training, when I realized how deeply research in this field can impact patients’ lives. I was drawn to the connection between understanding the brain and improving real clinical outcomes – for example, certain breastmilk nutrients can shape the newborn brain and profoundly impact behavior and cognition later in life,” says Dr. Miletta.

She offers strong words of encouragement to young people considering careers in health-related research.

“Today, especially in the age of AI, science needs people who can think critically, interpret complex data, and understand biological systems. These skills cannot be replaced by algorithms alone.”

Dr. Miletta, thank you! We’re so grateful for your work and your example to upcoming generations of scientists.

The LRF NGN is one of five independent research centers endowed by FLRF and comprising the Global Human Milk Research Consortium (GHMRC). Visit the GHMRC website and follow the FLRF LinkedIn page to learn more.
